GMA Fitness Academy is a purpose-built martial arts facility right here in the western suburbs of Melbourne. A family-run center with a strong focus on wellbeing and family values that offers the highest standards in Martial Arts, Self Defense, Fitness, and General Wellbeing. With a collective knowledge spanning over 100 years, our instructors are second to none. We host a variety of classes from; Taekwondo, Ju-Jitsu, Yoga, Kung-Fu & Group Fitness classes, we also offer classes in yoga and have in-house practice rooms for medical practitioners including acupuncture, chiropractic, and massages. A holistic approach to both mind and body. Whether you’re looking to get in shape,  increase your flexibility, gain confidence or simply learn a fun activity or skill, we have what you need.

Master Peter G. is a Doctor of Medicine with a belief that a strong mind will create a strong body. He is a practitioner of acupuncture and is the core of GMA Fitness Academy, he is the vision behind creating such a family-friendly martial arts school that allows families to learn and practice safely.

Our center enables you to begin a journey in martial arts and benefit from regular practice in mixed styles for a whole-body approach to health and wellbeing and our students learn to earn deep respect for both themselves and others by studying their chosen art with GMA and beginning their journey with Master Peter.


Our instructors are dedicated to teaching the true essence of their respective fields, from the Traditional Values of Martial Arts to the Spiritual practices of Yoga & Meditation. Martial arts is a way of life, it is an art form and must be practiced diligently for many years in order to gain clarity and focus, this is why martial arts has stood the test of time and is still practiced to this day. Unfortunately, the true aspects of martial arts are becoming lost in the fast-paced world we live in. Learning to protect yourself effectively is one of the main reasons people wish to learn or wish for their children to learn, but this is only one small aspect of what true martial arts offers.

Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control & an Indomitable Spirit are the 5 Tenets of Taekwondo. These tenets are guidelines all students must adhere to in order to develop themselves in life as good human beings and not just another bully on the streets who has been taught how to fight. Every martial art has deeply rooted philosophies and techniques that help students develop not only their physical skills but their mental aspects and their character.

Our instructors are all blessed with a combined total of 100+ years of experience in their respective arts which all have deep roots in their traditional values but also incorporated new philosophies and teachings to continuously evolve and better themselves with time. This is what it means to be a martial artist, someone who is forever a student and continuously learning and developing whilst those who follow them strive to keep up as they learn from their masters.


Master Peter began studying Taekwondo at the age of 5 with his younger sister Lily who chased her brother everywhere even if she was only 3. Under the watchful eye of Grand Master Young Youl Oh and his Father Stefan the three together trained and studied under Grand Master Young Youl Oh for 15+ years, competing in many club championships, events, and demonstrations, then obtaining their black belts in the year 2000.

Shortly after Master Stefan received his 4th Dan, Grand Master Oh flew to South Korea where he would hold a seat on the board of the World Taekwondo Federation and began the standardization of taekwondo for all clubs in the world to follow. In the middle of the year Global Taekwondo was then born with Master Stefan as the head instructor and both Master Peter and younger sister Lily began helping and teaching the art of Taekwondo in a school gymnasium located in Taylors Lakes.

As the club began to grow, we began to branch out obtaining knowledge from many other arts and disciplines while competing in tournaments and developing our knowledge in our own art along the way. As our club grew we moved into other suburbs in the local area to give our students a larger variety of days to train as we could only rent out halls at specific times and availabilities. In the year 2007 Master Peter began teaching in Kealba Gymnasium before moving back into Taylors Lakes where he began teaching his own club in conjunction with Master Stefan who began teaching in Keilor Downs and Caroline Springs.

In 2014 we closed down our other clubs and consolidated them in St Albans before we finally moved into our new premises in Caroline Springs in late November of 2014.GMA Fitness Academy was born. Our goal was simple, to create a space where people of all ages could come and learn different styles of martial arts under one roof. Inviting many instructors of different styles we continued to teach our classes and grow our family over the years. In 2015 Master Peter completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and one year later we opened our permanent residence in Caroline Springs where we now teach over 250 members in the arts of Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Yoga, Silat, Iaido, and Kung Fu. Master Peter also treats many patients and his students with his skills in Chinese medicine and acupuncture which have come in handy for treating our students whenever they have injured themselves in training or at competitions.

Every person on this planet is different from one another, we all gravitate towards different likes and dislikes. I have taught many students over the years and one thing is certain, everyone should know some form of martial art but no one martial art is suitable for every person. If a student wanted to learn a martial art, but suffered from a disability which rendered his/her legs immobile, how could this student master the high-intensity kicks of taekwondo? they couldn’t! However they could still learn how to use their arms and torso to avoid danger, and so a martial art with a high emphasis on the upper body would be more suitable. This is but one example of why every martial art has value and that no one art is better or worse than another, they are simply different. It is therefore our goal to spread these teachings to everyone, for martial arts is more than just learning to defend yourself, it is a way of life.
